Teaching

Ihave taught business administration courses in general management and human resources management in the United States and Canada. My teaching experience includes both in-person and online instruction. As a professor, I aim to impart to students the same sense of enjoyment I derived from learning insightful concepts as a student myself. My pedagogical approach emphasizes interactive activities on practical concepts to enhance transfer of learning. I believe that emphasizing the application of class concepts to practical work-life scenarios that students might encounter in their professional lives enhances their learning experience and better prepares them for the future. Below is a summary of my teaching experience and information about instruction effectiveness:

Student Learning

Students offered the following feedback regarding in-class exercises from a management course I taught online:

This week was very insightful as far as learning more about how to handle a difficult situation properly. It was helpful to do that role-playing activity where I had the opportunity to play a manager meeting with an employee to discuss performance. It ended up being a lot harder to give a performance evaluation than I had anticipated. Gave me lots of empathy for bosses that I've had that struggle with them! I felt it was helpful to learn more about this as this can be a very difficult and potentially emotional situation.

... I particularly enjoyed the interview this week. Historically I've never looked at myself as someone who wants to spearhead a corporation from the highest level. To be clear, I've kind of looked at CEO's and executive types as a little narcissistic and unrelatable. The interview this week was so effective at breaking that perception down a bit and making me realize they are more relatable than I might have given them credit for. It makes me believe that one day with diligent effort and hard work climbing to the highest tiers of leadership isn't necessarily out of reach.

On Tuesday you introduced us to a tool to compare interview candidates to each other by rank of importance by category. It is something I will be using at work on a weekly basis going forward as I field numerous interviews because I work in HR. This was the tool I didn’t know I needed.

…In conclusion the best part of this week was that we were required to craft a team contract. It forced folks to come together and create some guidelines and expectations. No other professor I have had has done that. In my opinion it really lends itself to facilitating the group project in general.
